Nicknamed “the playground of the presidents,” Rancho Mirage — the valley’s geographic center — is a showcase of lavish country club homes, fairway condominiums, and lushly landscaped, pristine avenues.

The city emerged in 1924, when Los Angeles developers purchased a number of land parcels. Within a few years, it became the ultimate “Hollywood hideaway” where top stars could acquire estate homes, find retreat and practice their golf game.

The upscale resort lifestyle defines the Rancho Mirage experience today, largely centered on the favored pastime of golf. Notables of the sports world such as Pete Dye, Arnold Palmer and Pete Robinson designed many of the courses that host renowned golf tournaments each year.


The Westin Mission Hills Resort is home to the Reed Anderson Tennis School, one of the country’s top camps. The Lodge at Rancho Mirage recently made Conde Nast Traveler’s top five list of U.S. Mainland Resorts.
Leisure-time activities and community events are seemingly endless. The Children’s Discovery Museum of the Desert supplies inventive and interactive programs and exhibits for children of all age groups. The River is a popular “hot spot” that attracts crowds from all around the valley. With a diverse mix of upscale shops, galleries, movie theaters, restaurants, outdoor concerts and art shows, it is the place to enjoy an afternoon of leisure shopping or a “night on the town.”

Rancho Mirage is also home to the famous, five-star Eisenhower Medical Center, recently acknowledged as one of the top 100 hospitals in the nation. The Center’s family of services includes the celebrated Barbara Sinatra Children’s Center and Betty Ford Center.


An architectural achievement along Highway 111 is the new Rancho Mirage Public Library, a state-of-the-art facility that presents a number of special events and lecture series appearances.


The city takes great pride in the preservation of the native bighorn sheep that reside at the foot of the Santa Rosa Mountains. The use of a bighorn icon as the official symbol of Rancho Mirage is a clear testament to this.
