World-renowned Palm Springs is a small city with the cultural appeal of a large urban hub.
The city lies at the foot of one of Southern California’s most magnificent mountain peaks, Mount San Jacinto. Through the years, it has retained much of the 30s, 40s and 50s charm when it was primarily known as a recreational tourist destination and Hollywood star getaway. Today, the city’s economy revolves around its new wave of year-round residents, real estate development, tourism, health care, retail trade, and personal services.

Palm Springs was originally known as Agua Caliente during the 1800s, with a population comprised by Native American Indians.

There is a renewed appreciation of mid-century modern architecture that added the air of contemporary sophistication associated with classic Palm Springs. Restoration projects are underway all over the city returning these homes and businesses to their former glory.

The Palm Springs Aerial Tram, one of the world’s largest rotating tramcars, is a popular attraction enjoyed by tourists and locals alike. The tram ascends into the air on a two-and-a-half mile trek to reveal spectacular valley views before landing within a peaceful wilderness atop the San Jacinto Mountain. Many locals embark on this adventure in summer to enjoy temperatures well below the triple digits experienced down in the valley.

Festivity is standard fare with a number of cultural and community events adding to the city vibe. The Palm Springs International Film Festival is a celebrated affair of star-studded, red carpet affairs, featuring screenings of over 100 movies for several days in January. The Fabulous Palm Springs Follies stage show spectacular brings Broadway-style entertainment to the west. Every Thursday evening the downtown area transforms into VillageFest, a diverse display of arts and crafts, a certified farmer’s market, food booths, and live entertainment. The Palm Springs Desert Museum is a cultural treasure, presenting traveling art exhibitions and viewings of its impressive permanent collection and various entertainment productions in the Annenberg Theater.

The Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians has added an exciting vibrancy to downtown with
the recent remodel and additions to their Spa Resort Casino.

Palm Springs is writing a new chapter in its decade-spanning novel, inspired by a historical preface aptly remembered and appreciated to this day.
