Canadian Retirement Visa Nears ‘A Go’

La Quinta, CA—October 25, 2011— After an over 15-year lobbying process and countless meetings with US senators, immigration attorneys and other political decision makers, ‘The Retirement Visa’ is a ‘near- go’. The visa will allow Canadians, aged 50-plus, to spend as much as 250 days annually within the United States without the worry of complex immigration issues. The bill, S. 1746, also proposes a homeownership visa allowing Canadians of any age to live within the US year-round, while saving a significant amount in income taxes. To qualify, a Canadian citizen would need to spend at least $500,000 in acquiring a home within the United States.
This visa bill is a ‘win-win’, costing virtually nothing while simultaneously serving as a job creator and assisting Canadians in tax reduction. They will have the opportunity to enjoy a lower cost-of-living experience in a warmer climate with a myriad of enriching lifestyle opportunities far away from the snow. Although Canadians will not be able to go to work on the retirement or homeownership visas, they can provide a bridge leading to a ‘work visa’ with proper immigration planning. The bill is currently working its way through Congress, and expected to become law within the first quarter of 2012.
Updates will be provided by Rob Zwemmer and Associates of the Keller Williams Luxury Home Division in La Quinta, CA.
